Why ‘Donating Clothes’ Might Not Be Enough
Donating a bag of old sweaters is a mitzvah. It’s a good thing. But is it a transformative experience for your child?
In the education world, we talk about Action-Research. This means we don’t just treat the symptom (someone is cold); we look for the Root Cause (why is there no affordable housing or heating assistance?).
When a student asks “Why?”, the project shifts from a one-time donation to a leadership mission. They might start a goods drive, sure, but they’ll do it while advocating for a local policy change or educating their peers on the underlying issue. That’s the difference between a “volunteer” and a “change-maker.”
