Mitzvah Jamie F.A.Q.
What does my child walk away with at the end of the 6 weeks?
By the end of the session, every student has a completed “Capstone” Mitzvah project plan. This blueprint includes their identified values, a clear goal, a research-backed strategy, and a plan for implementation and reflection.
My child is already so busy. How much time does this take?
The program is designed to be efficient and high-impact. It consists of a 6-week small group session where we do the heavy lifting of planning and organizing together. My goal is to take the “project manager” role off your plate so you can simply enjoy seeing your child’s growth.
What is “Action-Research,” and why do you use it for Mitzvah projects?
Action-research is used to identify a real-world problem, analyze its root causes, and implement strategic solutions. In addition to, or instead of, picking a charity from a list, your child will learn to think like a community leader to create a project that has a measurable impact.
Does the project have to be religious?
While the program is rooted in the value of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), the focus is on the student’s personal identity and their role as a community member. I work with students to find projects that resonate with their specific interests, whether that involves social justice, environmental work, or local community service.
Why a small group?
Middle schoolers thrive on peer interaction. In a small group, students can bounce ideas off one another, offer feedback on each other’s “root cause” analyses, and realize they aren’t the only ones looking to make a difference.
What’s the benefit of working 1-on-1?
While many students love the collaborative “think-tank” feel of small groups, I also provide 1-on-1 Zoom sessions for students who prefer a more personalized pace or have complex schedules. Whether in a group or individual setting, the goal remains the same: a student-led, research-backed project they are proud to call their own.
